Did You Know?

Beautiful affordable La Paz is one of the few places in the world where the desert meets the sea.

Cost of Living in la paz

The cost of living in La Paz is quite reasonable for most things.  Though costs can vary, here's what I've found for some typical items:

  • Real Estate -  as you know, you get quite a bit more for your money for real estate in Mexico.   In the La Paz area, one can acquire a spacious sea view property with a charming casa in the $200,000 USD ballpark.

  • Food - in both the grocery store and at restaurants you'll find fresh delicious food priced some 30% below what you'll find in the U.S.  The day-to-day enjoyment of great meals in great setttings is one of the best  things about being in La Paz.

  • Utilities - gas, water, and sewer service for the home are very cheap, considerably less than the U.S, but electricity costs can be quite similar.  Gasoline for your vehicle stays at a steady relatively low price set by the Mexican government which avoids the trauma of the recent price hikes and falls endured in most countries.

  • Services - most maintenance and labor costs run half or less that in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Taxes and insurance - maintaining the fideocomiso, the property bank trust, costs around $45 a month while property tax is only around $10 per month depending on the property.  Medical, dental and auto insurance can be half or less the cost in the U.S.   Medication costs are also much lower.
